Priority Issue 2 - Integrated computational life science to support personalized and preventive medicine

As we age, our risk of contracting disease increases. With the elderly proportion of the population increasing, there is a greater need for personalized, preventive medicine focusing on early detection and disease prevention. The post-K computer will allow us, for the first time, to analyze big data on diagnostics and genomics, as well as to conduct large-scale biomedical simulations. This activity will increase our understanding of conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular and neurological diseases, which will allow us to conduct research on methodologies for prevention and early detection as well as exploration of optimal treatments for each patient. Through this research we will develop the field of integrated computational life science and contribute to a society with longevity and healthy living.

  • Sub-issue A: Study of characteristics, temporal‒spatial diversity and origin of cancer by large‒scale sequencing
  • Sub-issue B: Supporting personalized medicine by data assimilation based biomedical simulation
  • Sub-issue C: Bridging basic medicine and clinical medicine by fusing heart simulation and molecular simulation
