Transitional power consumption by system

The K computer constantly consumes 10,000 kW or more of power and this power changes into heat. Providing a stable supply of the consumed power and reliably eliminating the waste heat will draw out the full potential of the K computer.

We perform maintenance and management of electrical and cooling facilities to ensure stable operation of the K computer. We are also working on R&D for maintaining an optimal working environment by combining steam-driven absorption refrigeration and inverter turbo refrigeration equipment, together with the operation of two 5000kW-class cogeneration systems. Other systems our team is developing include hot-spot sensing equipment to keep temperatures uniform in the space occupied by the supercomputer and temperature measurement instrumentation with the capacity of giving feedback to air conditioning and cooling equipment on a real-time basis.
